Blood worms are one of the more popular fishing baits. There are many species of bloodworms, but the ones used as fishing bait are found dwelling in the bottoms of lakes and estuaries.
Blood worms are probably the best, most nutritional source of food for bottom dwelling fish, and thus are prefect fishing bait for such fish as bream, carp, tench and gudgeon.
As bloodworms excrete blood, they are incredibly attractive to fish, for this reason they work very well in combination with fishing lures.
